No, I’m not joking. I know it sounds strange – an adult suggesting a pillow fight. It is also in the park. A pillow fight in the park? Well, this is the seemingly crazy idea that a social venture group has put into practice in London a few times. The last time it took place was quite recently, and it wasn’t too bad.

Remember the free hugs group? This is similar.

The organisers are called Focal Local, a group of Londoners aiming at encouraging Londoners to collaborate around projects which promote the understanding of different cultures and lifestyles. I have to say that I like the idea. Much that I love London, one of the disadvantages of living here is the deep individualism that is bringing many people to view other lifestyles somewhat suspiciously. It’s not the case in my most immediate social circle, including all of the Brits. But, it is the case in the business world, etc. This is not something that I’ve came across before, and I’ve been actively participating in London life for years.

So, I was curious to see how it was. Passers by generally found it fun and some even took part. The most interesting bit for me was that people were prompted to talk about it. They could’ve passed by and ignore the sight of a group of people fighting for no reason. It’s a bit like seeing a piece of unconventional artwork, which automatically prompts the viewer to stop and think, if they don’t ignore it altogether, that is.

Andy, the organiser, told me that they have had over 200 people in previous events, including families. There’s even an international pillow fight day which was sadly called off in London this year.

I filmed the short video below for you to see and, maybe, to tease you into taking part next time if you’re in London. The singer is called Ciro Hard pillows and those without pillow cases are not allowed.
