Now, it seems that these good old sweet things have been given a re-make, and it is an area of high competition and lawsuits. Just what we needed for our after-Christmas dieting resolutions! Have you ever tried any of the new-ish cakes below?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cronuts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first time I heard about them thought that, of course, they had to come from the US. Kind of typical idea from there if you ask me. It looks yummy good too. It is the combination of a <a title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Cronuts\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cronut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">croissant and donut pastry<\/a> that was created in a patisserie in New York.<\/p>\n<p>It apparently cannot be called that anywhere else in the world, pretty much like champagne and some types of cheeses. It even has a Wikipedia page too &#8211; it&#8217;s the sign of the times.<\/p>\n<p>I think you can also try them somewhere in the Clapham Common area in London.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Cronuts\" alt=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Cronuts\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/9\/99\/Cronut.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Crodough<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A few other people have tried their hand at creating similar new signature sweet pastries. One of them is in East London.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Crodough\" alt=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Crodough\" src=\"http:\/\/wilkes888.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/08\/london-cronut-guide-3.jpg%3Fw%3D1200\" width=\"605\" height=\"455\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Duffins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These ones have a big fan in a coffee shops chain giant. So, the small London company that invented duffins\u00a0<a title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Duffins lawsuit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-24471274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">filed a lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0against them at the end of 2013.<\/p>\n<p>They look more yummy than the cronuts. It is a hybrid between a muffin and a donut filled with raspberry jam. I saw this one next to the Townie, and I think I will forget about calories next time I pass by&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Duffins\" alt=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Duffins\" src=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/incoming\/article8867205.ece\/ALTERNATES\/w460\/web-duffin.jpg\" width=\"460\" height=\"345\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Townies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<em>townie<\/em> is normally defined in England as a permanent resident of a city, usually between 11 and 15 years old. The idea behind these cakes might be that they have been made to stay around for long time, then?<\/p>\n<p>They are a cross between a brownie and a tart, also invented by the same company that invented duffins in conjunction with food writer Victoria Stewart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Townies\" alt=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Townies\" src=\"http:\/\/media.npr.org\/assets\/img\/2013\/08\/21\/1-445b5d24a3a747828c5e9810ad62fb6f8ed90fdb-s6-c30.jpg\" width=\"569\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Crookies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The name sounds awful to me, but they look a lot better though. They are a croissant and Oreo cookie hybrid which I came across while I was researching for this entry. Crushed Oreo biscuits and sugar are inserted in croissant dough. A terribly calorific bomb first made in a patisserie in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Crookies\" alt=\"Donuts and All that Jazz - Crookies\" src=\"http:\/\/laughingsquid.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/tl-horizontal_main1.jpeg\" width=\"640\" height=\"434\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Which one do you prefer or would like to try?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">A last-minute addition to this post:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Cinnamon roll waffle doughnuts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">This is just that: a cinnamon roll that has been placed in a waffle iron. Why they also call that doughnuts is beyond me at this point. Reasons for this to happen: boredom, unable to make proper cinnamon rolls, lack of time.
