It was cold and it rained quite heavily during the August bank holiday Monday this year, which did not deter people from attending the Notting Hill Carnival in London. The good vibe there was contagious and I have tried to capture this particular aspect with my camera. Check the pictures out and tell me what you think!

One of the aspects that keep amazing me the most about London is people’s resilience. Come sun or rain, people just go out regardless. I took the pics below at one of the entrances to the festival coming from Notting Hill Gate tube station at about 2pm on both Sunday and Monday (right).

Where did the Carnival start?

It all started at the Tate Modern on Saturday, where an art display in the Turbine Hall called Canopy sheltered musicians and other performances the day before.

Colour and rythm

What I usually enjoy the most at the festival is the good vibe. All that colour and rythm that has the ability to put people of all ages in a good mood, even on a rainy day. Some people travelled from other countries only to take part in the parade.

Happy to pose

The African connection

The carnival celebrates the different cultures in the so-called West Indies, which have a very clear African connection. Here are some group pics from both days.

Outfits

It must be difficult to dance while wearing those outfits.

Animal instinct

The topic this year seemed to be animal instinct. Some sexy and scary creatures below.

Birds are also celebrated in this culture. I don’t mean girls, by the way.

Music instruments

Their main instrument seems to be drums. I think the steel drum is the national instrument in Trinidad and Tobago.
