{"id":4156,"date":"2020-06-21T17:48:16","date_gmt":"2020-06-21T16:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alondonerfromafar.co.uk\/?p=4156"},"modified":"2020-06-21T17:48:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-21T16:48:19","slug":"happy-summer-solstice-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alondonerfromafar.co.uk\/happy-summer-solstice-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Summer Solstice All!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Summer has always been almost a cause for celebration for me. Long, sunny days that prompt you to just be happy. When I first arrived in London, the summer solstice celebration in Stonehenge seemed to have a special meaning, as in a must-go event. In other countries, similar Celtic celebrations take place, but it is somehow Stonhenge that is the most famous around the world, probably as it is linked to the Arthur Pendragon stories and the hippie era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was something magical about it, which lost a bit of its appeal throughout the years, especially as I learnt that the summer solstice celebrations at Stonhenge were a mass event. The sheer amount of attendees makes it hard to get to the actual stone circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, merely 10,000 people are said to have attended the event, as revellers had been urged to avoid gathering there, due to the current pandemic situation. The event was streamlined by English Heritage for the first time, which is a massive postive in the current times! <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spirefm.co.uk\/news\/local-news\/3127140\/36-million-watch-a-cloudy-stonehenge-summer-solstice-online\/\" target=\"_blank\">3.6 million people<\/a> watched both sunset on Saturday and sunrise on this morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, there were no arrests, which is refreshing as we all know what goes on during the Notting Hill carnival and other <a href=\"https:\/\/alondonerfromafar.co.uk\/at-the-notting-hill-carnival-2012\/\">street party events in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The images<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I watched part of sunset live, thanks to British Heritage. The images were beautiful, and I can understand why it must&#8217;ve felt magical for everyone present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also watched the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pxfiRpbe9iI\" target=\"_blank\">sunrise video<\/a> this morning, as sunrise was happening at 4.51am! Those images were spectacular and had to take some stills to share them with you. Hope English Heritage doesn&#8217;t mind. I do encourage you to watch their video on YouTube.
