London Street Fashion
“The great thing about London is that it lives and breathes fashion. The street is still the best way to get a snapshot of London style.”
The sentence above, by fashion designer Todd Lynn, shows one of the most eye-catching aspects of this city. Surely every visitor will have noticed the varied street fashion styles in London, which range from posh frocks and the trendiest outfits to the most personal styles which seem to be saying `this is just me, like it or not´.
The London Fashion Week ended a few days ago. It showcased the clothes that we might or not see in London´s shops. Thing is, do we actually need to wear all that we see? People do not seem to care that much unless they are in the fashion industry, enjoy fashion or need to dress in a certain way. Some newspapers even have a dedicated section to London street fashion.
Now, how would you expect to see people dressed on a Monday morning? Business clothes or jeans depending on where one works? Well, a bit of that too. I keep on seeing lovely little black dresses with transparent features well before the weekend, even on Monday or Tuesday mornings.
This apparent `inappropriateness´ gets quite interesting on Saturday night. Get then ready to see semi naked ladies in cold temperatures or under the rain without a coat or so much of a scarf on. But, hey, this is London! I just can´t help thinking about the thickness of that `beer jacket´ they need to, err, `wear´ when dressing like this. I was born way too cold for that!
What I personally enjoy is the copious amounts of creativity displayed in London´s shop windows, just like Selfridges. See picture below as an example.
I just tried googling “beer jacket”– is it really a make-believe invisible coat?? Pretty funny, if so. I, too, was born way too cold for that kind of fashion!!
Fun post– I could almost hear Ray Davies singing Dedicated Follower Of Fashion!! : )
No, I don´t think it is. It is more like a joke or some kind of excuse for not wearing a jacket. Blimey, it´s too cold for that. I liked the Ray Davies comment!
Great post! I really enjoyed reading this and will be back for more soon! 🙂 Cheers~
Thanks for that. Your blog looks very interesting to me too. See you soon! 🙂
“London Street Fashion | A Londoner from Afar” Window Treatments Ideas was in fact a good read and thus I personally was
