I love it when people get creative and adventurous. Who would’ve thought that we were going to enjoy inland beaches? I went to the Camden Beach at the Roundhouse recently to check it out, and this is the result.

They had turned the rooftop above the restaurant there into a giant beach – without the sea, nor any water for that matter. The attention to detail was good.

It felt a bit like being in a themed house party, partly because the whole area wasn’t very big. Something that I noticed is that everyone there looked the part. I mean, it was warm, but not warm enough to wear a bikini. Maybe, it is because I come from a hot country. I find this a very intrinsic British thing, trying to ignore the ugly clouds threatening rain and the occasional cold winds.

There were also three bars in a very small space!

The one thing that marvelled me the most was the sand. The organisers had brought 150 tonnes of fine, beach sand. Londoners are used to the pebbles in Brighton, so this lovely sand was welcome. 

The beach, unlike the rave beaches that we occasionally see near Festival Pier in South Bank, is meant to be for families and groups of friends who want to spend a different and nice day. It is open until 24th August. Who’s gone to the beach? Did you like it?
