It is only a few hours to go for Christmas Eve and for Santa to pay us a visit. Excited? Every country has different traditions, as you can see in this infographic:
One of the shared traditions is music. Many countries have their own Christmas carols. Some of them have gone beyond political boundaries and have been translated into different languages, eg, from Latin into English, etc.
In the pop music world, there is this unwritten tradition of releasing certain songs around this period, even when they are not about Christmas. A suitable video or mention of the word Christmas was usually all it took. One can hear these songs year after year in London pubs and Christmas dos, and I believe in many other places around the world. I have often wondered why, as some of these songs are not really that well-loved by many. Curiously enough, their lyrics might be not that happy at all.
