The 2012 Olympics Are Here!
It finally happened! After seven years preparing for this, including the four years after London won the chance to host the event, the 2012 Olympic Games are here! Actually, only a few more days for the Olympics to finish and the Paralympics to start. It´s all quite exciting. A friend even took part in the opening ceremony!
Are you enjoying the Olympics so far?
Now, not all Londoners are loving it, due to some issues. However, the atmosphere in London is so good. I will explore some of the issues in other entries. I have been to Stratford, where the Olympic Stadium is, to have a feeingl for the party atmosphere. This is especially so since I only got tickets for the Paralympics.
The authorities have tried their best to get us in the mood. The tube has been decorated in an appealing manner with Olympic style posters and signals. Even the indications to the various venues and information points have been designed to stand out in a nice way.
As yo can see, everything is very pink. Even some of the volunteers wear pink clothes and use huge, pink foam hands to indicate the crowds where to go. I will post a picture in other Olympic entries.
One of the aspects that I am enjoying the most of these Games is the entertainment available throughout London. For instance, in many areas where they show the competitions on screens.
100 statues of the Olympic and Paralympic mascots have been placed all over London. Finding them is part of the plan of the Government to involve the members of the public with the Games. It is a bit like the Easter Eggs and the phone boxes art project that I have mentioned in other blog posts.
Talking about entertainment, my trip on the Overground today was memorable. There was this magician entertaining the kids and the adults around them. Who would´ve thought, hey? It was, as ever, a very busy train all the way from Stratford – he made my day!
More news soon.
Enjoy every minute of it. It is a once in a lifetime thing.
Thank you! Are you watching any competitions? Any favourites?
The only full competition I was able to see so far was the one we won gold in. Woman’s trampoline. Other than that I have seen beginnings, ends and some middles. 😉
I am just to thankful for your posts. You make it seem so close …like I am there. Lovely !!!
Wow! Thank you so much for that and for popping in. Comments like this make my day!
I am loving it, and have discovered that I love Volleyball, Water Polo and Handball, all sports I have never actually watched before. Not got tickets, but have been watching events “on the red button” (ie, live and complete, with or without commentary, on Sky+).
But I was looking forward to the Olympics and got quite grumpy with the “it’s all going to go wrong” mindset of so many people.
Yes, actually I did think that transport and other things like internet access could be negatively affected. But, it has been all right so far. I love athletics, volleyball and basketball. Not good memories of handball from school!
